bujagali hydropower project

INTERCONNECTION PROJECT

The Bujagali Interconnection Project is a separate proposed project sponsored by Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL). The project is needed to connect the proposed Bujagali Hydropower Project to the Ugandan power grid.

Bujagali Energy Limited, sponsor of the hydropower project, is working closely with UETCL in managing the development of the power transmission line and, if the proposal is approved, its construction.

In brief, the proposed interconnection project includes 97 km of new power transmission lines and a substation (at Kawanda). Much of the proposed route between Bujagali and Kawanda will be located directly adjacent to the existing power transmission line connecting the Nalubaale (Owen Falls) and Kampala North substations. The planned route passes through the districts of Wakiso, Mukono, Mpigi, and Kampala.

The Social & Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the interconnection project was submitted to the Government of Uganda and prospective project lenders (e.g., African Development Bank) in December 2006 and is under review. This and other documents and maps associated with the proposed UETCL interconnection project are available for viewing (see below).

Comments on the interconnection project should be submitted to the National Environmental Management Authority or Bujagali Energy Limited (see addresses below), or you may email comments to us at info@bujagali-energy.com.
