The Bujagali Interconnection Project is a separate project sponsored by Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL). The project is needed to connect the Bujagali Hydropower Project to the Ugandan power grid.
Bujagali Energy Limited, sponsor of the hydropower project, is working closely with UETCL to manage the development and construction of the power transmission line.
In brief, the interconnection project includes 97 km of new power transmission lines and a substation (at Kawanda). Much of the proposed route between Bujagali and Kawanda will be located directly adjacent to the existing power transmission line connecting the Nalubaale (Owen Falls) and Kampala North substations. The planned route passes through the districts of Wakiso, Mukono, and Kampala.
The Social & Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the interconnection project was submitted to the Government of Uganda and project lenders (e.g., African Development Bank) in December 2006 and approved in April 2007. This and other documents and maps associated with the UETCL interconnection project are available for viewing (see below).
Comments on the interconnection project may be submitted to UETCL or Bujagali Energy Limited (see addresses below), or you may email comments to us at Office@bel.co.ug.
